Hospice Volunteers

Volunteers are the "Heart of Hospice" because they are involved in almost everything we do! They are an important component of our patient care team and also help in many other ways. Wuesthoff Hospice & Palliative Care has a number of volunteer opportunities that are likely to appeal to anyone with a big heart and a little time to share:

  • Patient/Family Care
  • Transportation
  • Grief Support
  • Thrift Shop Volunteers
  • Office Volunteers
  • Wuesthoff Hospice Care Center
  • Teenage Volunteers
  • Pet Therapy Volunteers
Volunteers choose the area(s) they are most interested in and the amount of time they are willing to contribute to Hospice.

How Can I Become a Hospice Volunteer?

You can start the process by letting us know of your interest. Call (321) 253-2222 and ask to speak to a Volunteer Coordinator. Potential Hospice volunteers attend a free, 21-hour volunteer training course that gives a comprehensive overview of Hospice care and prepares participants to become Hospice volunteers. A portion of this training can be completed as a self-study at home.

We conduct a volunteer training course several times per year in various locations throughout Brevard County. Course topics include:

  • Overview and History of Hospice Care
  • Personal Care of Patients
  • Family Dynamics
  • End-of-Life Issues
  • Communication Skills
  • Spiritual Aspects of Dying
  • Safety and Risk Management
